PASO ROBLES GROUNDWATER BASIN (PRGWB)
New Agriculture

Return to PRGWB

On October 27, 2015, the Board adopted Resolution 2015-288.  The resolution included changes to the County Code (Title 22) that affected new and/or expanded irrigated agriculture in the Paso Robles Groundwater Basin.

Title 22 requires that any new irrigated agriculture/crop production in the Paso Robles Groundwater Basin offset water use at a 1:1 ratio.  Property owners interested in planting new crops must contact the Department of Planning and Building to apply for an offset clearance.

Offset credits for agriculture must come from existing crops currently planted in the Paso Robles Groundwater Basin.  Estimated water usage of existing and proposed crops is calculated using standard average water use per acre per year for specific crop types grown in the region.
